These Oreo Bats literally can’t be any easier! Whether you’re looking for a fun and simple Halloween activity to do with the kids, a treat for your Halloween party, or a class Halloween activity, these Oreo Bats are your answer!

Not sure which Halloween candy is vegan? Check out my Essential Guide to Vegan Halloween Candy!

Oreos are vegan as they do not contain any animal derived ingredients. However, if you have a dairy allergy, you should be aware that they could be cross-contact with milk.

Another great option to use instead of Oreos are the Back to Nature Classic Creme Cookies.

These cookies work just as well as the classic Oreo, but they are non-GMO, have no hydrogenated oils, or high fructose corn syrup.

My kids and I made these on a rainy afternoon, and had so much fun. If you’re kids are like mine, they have a short attention span.

Making these Oreo Bats takes the perfect amount of time, about 10 minutes to make several bats!

I hope you and your kids have as much fun as we did putting these together, and just as much fun gobbling them up! Oreos are not a plant-based dessert, but they are a special and fun treat for Halloween!

Why you’ll love these Oreo Bats…

  • Only 3 simple ingredients
  • Quick and easy to make
  • A fun and festive Halloween cookie activity
  • Simple enough to make with the kids
  • A great activity for the classroom
  • Cute cookie treat for your Halloween party
  • No baking or cooking required!

Ingredients

  • Oreo cookies or other chocolate sandwich cookies to create the bats!
  • Dairy-Free mini chocolate chips to make the google eyes.
  • Black or White Decorating Gel to draw a smile.

How to Make Oreo Bats

Step 1: Twist the cookie so that the two chocolate cookies are separated. The cream will usually stick mostly to one side.

Step 2: With a butter knife, scrape half of the cream off of the cookie. Divide that cream into two, and roll into two small balls. Gently flatten with your finger. These two rounds will become the white of the google eyes.

Step 3: Place a mini chocolate chip in the center of the two white rounds. Now you have two google eyes!

Step 4: With the chocolate cookie that doesn’t have any cream, carefully break in half. This can be a bit tricky to get the perfect break. If it’s not quite the perfect break halfway down use the butter knife to scrape a little cookie off the center to try to even them out.

Step 5: Make two dots with the icing gel on the center of the unbroken cookie, and draw a smile.

Step 6: Press the google eyes on each dot. Using the cream on the other side of the cookie as glue press the two cookie halves on either side to create the wings, rounded end up.

That’s it! How easy is that?

Even my youngest could make these!

Variations

Google Eyes-If you’re not vegan, and don’t want to make these google eyes yourself, you can use candy google eyes. However, if you’re vegan or kosher, the candy google eyes that are store bought contain gelatin.

Dip in Chocolate-If you want to make these a little extra fancy, you can dip the tops of the cookies in melted dairy free chocolate! Just be sure you remove one side of the cookie for the wings before doing this!

Do I have to use Oreos?-You don’t have to use Oreos, any chocolate cream cookie will work!

Top Tips for Making Oreo Bats

  • To get even bat wings center your two hands around the cookie. It’s not perfect, but usually results in a more even break.
  • Leave enough cream on the underside of the cookie to attach the wings.
  • If you decide to use store bought candy google eyes, use the decorating gel to help them stick.
  • Use the bats as cupcake toppers like I did in these Vegan Halloween Cupcakes!
