It’s not quite Halloween yet, but the leaves are turning colors, and the weather has begun to cool. My kids have already picked out their Halloween costumes, and have been wearing them around the house on a daily basis ever since. At this rate we’ll be lucky if all the parts of the costume are still in one piece by the time Halloween rolls around.

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. I love the cool crisp air of the fall, the hay rides, the apple picking, but most of all I love the flavors of fall with pumpkin and apples taking the lead on many fall inspired dishes.

Pumpkin Smoothie Recipe

I used to lack creativity when it came to pumpkin recipes sticking to muffins, breads, and pie, of course. I still love all of those recipes, but wanted to come up with something a bit more creative and cute.

This Jack-O-Lantern smoothie was inspired by my desire to create a healthy drink option that was orange, creamy, healthy, and kid friendly for our annual Halloween party.

When I was doing some research looking for a cute and healthy orange recipe to go with our pumpkin theme I found many with artificial ingredients such as orange soda, and orange sherbet. I know my kids get enough artificial sugar on Halloween to last them the year, so piling on more in the form of a smoothie just doesn’t seem right.

That’s when I came up with this recipe for a Jack-O-Lantern smoothie that uses all natural ingredients, and no dairy. It’s beautifully orange, and looks cute as a button when presented at a party. I’ve also found that whipping up this smoothie is great for a weekday morning breakfast or a quick weekend snack during the fall season.

With only 4 simple ingredients and 3 minutes to prepare you’ll have an adorable smoothie to enjoy at your next Halloween party or any day of the week!

Ingredients for Jack-O-Lantern Smoothies:

I pulled these ingredients together because of their natural bright orange color, and the way the flavors compliment one another. The frozen banana and mango add a natural creaminess to the smoothie, while the pumpkin adds a rich orange color and tones down the sweetness just enough. I used orange juice as the base for this smoothie for natural sweetness and that bright orange color.

  • Natural Orange Juice
  • Frozen Mango
  • Frozen Banana
  • Pumpkin Puree

How to Make the Jack-O-Lantern Cups:

To make the cute Jack-O-Lantern cups you’ll need…

I use small clear plastic cups and a black sharpie to draw the Jack-O-Lantern face. Then I use a green and white paper straw for the stem.

Variations on this Jack-O-Lantern Smoothie

There are a few ingredient replacements you can make with this jack-o-lantern smoothie recipe. Instead of using orange juice you can use a dairy free milk such as almond milk. The orange color will not be as pronounced but it will stay be creamy and delicious and will cut back on the total grams of natural sugar. By using almond milk instead of orange juice you will reduce the total sugars in one serving by 10 grams.

You can also add your own favorite orange fruit. Peaches, and nectarines will also taste great in this smoothie.
