It’s not quite autumn yet, but the leaves are turning colors, and the weather has begun to cool.
My kids have already picked out their Halloween costumes, and have been wearing them around the house on a daily basis ever since.
At this rate we’ll be lucky if all the parts of the costume are still in one piece by the time Halloween rolls around.
Autumn is my favorite season. I love the cool crisp fall air, the hay rides, the apple picking, but most of all I love the flavors. For me fall is pumpkin season!
Note: If you’ve made this recipe in the past, I updated it on August of 2020 with new photos, and changed the recipe ingredients to reduce the sugar, and enhance the pumpkin flavor.

This easy recipe was inspired by my desire to create a healthy plant-based smoothie that was creamy, healthy, and kid friendly for our annual Halloween party.
When I was doing some research looking for a cute and healthy orange recipe to go with our pumpkin theme I found many with artificial ingredients such as orange soda, and orange sherbet.
I know my kids get enough artificial sugar on Halloween to last them the year, so piling on more in the form of a smoothie just doesn’t seem right.
The best part of this creamy smoothie recipe is that it’s not only delicious, but it’s full of whole food plant-based ingredients!

How to Make Jack-O-Lantern Cups:
To make the cute Jack-O-Lantern cups you’ll need…

I use small clear plastic cups and a black sharpie to draw the Jack-O-Lantern face. Then I use a green and white paper straw for the stem.
Variations and Substitutions
Add Fruit: If you like your smoothie a bit sweeter, add additional frozen fruit such as mango, or peaches. The smoothie will retain that bright pumpkin orange!
Don’t have almond milk? Any plant-milk will work well in this smoothie. Some of your other options include soy, rice, cashew, oat, or coconut. If you choose coconut milk you’ll have a higher fat content and a more rich and creamy texture.
Add Healthy Fats: Boost the nutritional value of this smoothie by adding some healthy fats such as a tablespoon of almond butter, hemp seeds, ground flaxseed, chia seeds, or vanilla protein powder.
