There’s nothing like a refreshing Watermelon Mocktail with fresh mint and lime on a hot summer day! It’s a 5 star resort worthy drink you can make at home that’s perfect for kids and adults alike!

Summer is heating up! We’re spending most of our days outdoors on our back deck enjoying the sunshine.
This is going to go down as the home bound summer! With limited options for day trips and vacations on hold we’re finding ways to create our own summer magic at home.
Last weekend my husband set up the tent in the backyard and he and the kids “camped” overnight. I opted to in the comfort of my own bed! But he and the kids had a blast. I did bring them refreshments 🙂
On hot days we’re turning on the sprinklers for the kids, and sipping on cool drinks and enjoying homemade vegan popsicles.
Even though we can’t venture too far from home, we’re making the best of it. Which is why I decided to make a drink as special and beautiful as one you might get at a 5 star resort, right here in my kitchen!
Watermelon Mockail: An adult and Kid-Friendly Drink Perfect for Hot Summer Days
While we all love fancy versions of lemonade, I found myself in the possession of a large watermelon. We’d already done quite a number on it, cutting big slices that we ate for lunch and dinner, but there was still some leftover.
With some mint from my herb garden, and a few limes in the fruit bowl, I decided to create a Watermelon Mocktail the whole family could enjoy!
I dressed these drinks up with fresh sprigs of mint, and watermelon wedges, which turned this drink into something spectacular.
When I handed it over to my oldest son his eyes grew and he took a big sip with a beaming smile on his face.
This mocktail reminds me of a healthy, sugar free version of a Shirley Temple. It’s a special kid-friendly drink without the sugar that adults will enjoy too!
Why You’ll Love this Watermelon Mocktail…
- Cool, light and refreshing
- Simple ingredients
- Refined sugar free
- A kid and adult friendly drink
- Done in minutes
Ingredients You’ll Need
- Watermelon-I use seedless watermelon that I cut into cubes. If you don’t have a seedless watermelon, remove the seeds after cubing.
- Fresh Mint-You’ll need leaves to muddle in the bottom of each cup, as well as extra for garnish. I recommend at least 8 sprigs
- Limes-You’ll need the juice of 2 limes as well as a few slices for garnish.
- Club Soda-You’ll add this at the end to create a bubbly effect.
Tools and Equipment You’ll Need
- Blender-You’ll use the blender to blend together the watermelon cubes and lime juice.
- Sieve-This is a fine mesh strainer that you’ll use to extract the juice from the watermelon without the pulp. It will create a smooth drink!
- 4 Glasses-I used stemless wine glasses. You can get plastic ones that are kid friendly and great for the outdoors!
- Muddler-You’ll use this to muddle the mint leaves at the bottom of each glass.
How to Make a Watermelon Mocktail – Step by Step
Step 1: Cube watermelon. Remove any seeds.
Step 2: Slice four thin rounds from your limes. Set aside to be used for garnish. Juice the rest of the two limes until you have about ¼ cup.
Step 3: Combine the cubed watermelon and lime juice in a blender. Blend until smooth.
Step 4: Using a sieve, strain the watermelon and lime mixture until you’re left with just the juice. Set aside.
Step 5: Place 5 mint leaves at the bottom of each glass. Use a muddler to release the flavor of the mint.
Step 6: Fill cups with ice. Pour watermelon juice halfway full. Top with club soda until full. Gently stir with a spoon to combine.
Step 7: Garnish each glass with a thin slice of watermelon, a sprig of mint, and reserved lime wedge. Enjoy!
Top Tips for Making the Perfect Watermelon Mocktail
- Use seedless watermelon, or be sure to remove all seeds before blending.
- Don’t skip the step of straining your watermelon and lime juice through the sieve. This will create a smooth juice without the pulp of the watermelon.
- Reserve enough mint, lime, and watermelon that you have some leftover to garnish each drink.
How to Serve
Serve in a stemless wine glass, short tumbler, or tall tumbler!
Fill each glass all the way to the top with cubed ice. Then pour the watermelon juice, followed by the club soda.
Garnish each glass with one sprig of mint, one small thinly sliced wedge of watermelon, and a wedge of lime.
If serving to a large group, muddle all the mint for all 4 servings (20 mint leaves) in the bottom of a pitcher, fill with ice, then pour the watermelon juice, followed by the club soda into the pitcher. Stir to combine.
Fill each glass with ice, and pour into each glass.
You’ll want to do this just before serving as you don’t want the ice to melt and water down the drink.
How to Store and Keep
If making this drink in advance. Pour the contents of the strained watermelon/lime juice into a pitcher, and store in the refrigerator until ready to serve. Then complete the process to make each drink.
