Why You’ll Love This Smoothie
Super Creamy: Avocado slices and banana pieces create a creamy finish without needing yogurt or dairy milk. The creamy texture makes it palatable for your kids and adults.
Naturally Sweetened: I dislike many smoothie recipes because they are full of sugar and overwhelmingly sweet. This smoothie is naturally sweetened with the frozen banana, and the green apple adds a nice tart finish.
Quick and Easy: Smoothies are a nutritious option that is super quick and easy to assemble. Place your ingredients in the blender and blend until smooth. That’s it!
Ingredients and Notes

Dairy-Free Milk: Use any dairy-free milk alternative you prefer. I like using unsweetened vanilla almond milk.
Fruits and Vegetables: I used organic spinach, half an avocado, an organic green apple, and a frozen banana. I prefer to use fresh spinach rather than frozen. It’s best to keep frozen bananas in your freezer when you need them for a smoothie. Once your bananas start turning, peel them, place them in a freezer safe, and keep them in the freezer. Peel the green apple and dice prior to adding it to your smoothie.
Chia seeds: Gives the smoothie a protein boost!
How to Make A Spinach Apple Smoothie
- Cube the green apple, and shop the frozen banana into chunks.

- Combine almond milk and spinach in your high-speed blender. Blend until smooth and all the spinach pieces are combined with the almond milk.
- Add the avocado, apple, frozen banana, and chia seeds. Blend until smooth.

- Pour into two glasses and sprinkle a few chia seeds on top.

FAQS
When the bananas start to form brown spots, they are ripe and sweet. Leaving them out longer will cause them to go bad. But if you peel them and place them in a freezer-safe bag, they will have a nice creamy texture for smoothies and be extra sweet.
I don’t add ice to my smoothies because frozen fruit provides a cool and icy texture, while the ice cubes tend to water down the smoothie as the ice melts.
A firm apple is the best to use in smoothies. Soft apples like red delicious will give the smoothie a mealy texture. Firm apples like Granny Smith or Gala add fiber and sweetness while providing a creamy finish.
Optional Smoothie Add-Ins
Vanilla Protein Powder: Provide a protein boost by adding your favorite vegan vanilla protein powder.
Ground Flax: Ground flax is another option that provides a protein boost and is a great source of omega-3 fatty acids.
Hemp Seeds: Hemp seeds have a mild, nutty flavor that adds protein and healthy fats.
Other Fruit: Add more frozen fruit to your smoothie, such as frozen peaches or mango.
Storage
Refrigerate: This is one of those recipes that is best enjoyed freshly made. You can attempt to refrigerate leftovers, but the consistency will not be the same. I wouldn’t try to keep it longer than one day.
Freeze: You can also freeze leftovers by pouring them into cube trays. When you’re ready to enjoy again, transfer the cubes to your blender and blend until smooth.
Expert Tips
- When making smoothies, always add the liquid first. Then add the spinach and blend. This allows the spinach to incorporate with the milk and break up any tiny spinach leaves.
- Freeze your overripe bananas to have a frozen banana ready whenever you want to enjoy a smoothie.
- Add the frozen bananas and chia seeds last. Make sure to cut the banana into chunks before adding it to your smoothie so that it easily blends and breaks down.
- Use a high-speed blender if you have one. It will give you the best consistency.

Notes
- I like to add the spinach first to make sure it breaks down in the smoothie. Many people don’t like having little flecks of spinach or kale in their smoothies so putting it in first allows it to incorporate and breakdown with the almond milk.
- Freeze your overripe bananas so that you have a frozen banana ready whenever you want to enjoy a smoothie.
- I add the frozen bananas and chia seeds last. Make sure to cut the banana into chunks before adding it to your smoothie so that it easily blends and breaks down.
- Make and enjoy immediately, or transfer to an ice cube tray and freeze to blend later.

I’ve made many smoothies without a high-speed blender & works fine. Just have to run blender a little longer but no problems. Sometimes these recipes are more complicated than they really are so always think outside the box when they call for sophisticated appliances which are usually not necessary.
