The late summer brings fresh figs, and there’s nothing more simple and delicious than chocolate covered figs. With only 3 ingredients, and 20 minutes you have a healthy dessert or snack!

It is late August and fresh figs have once again hit the produce section. Figs are in season during the late summer months. One way to enjoy them all year long is to dry figs during the summer months. When you see this fresh fruit, you must pick them up. They make for a delicious snack. But chocolate always makes things just a bit better, right?!
Chocolate covered figs are my go-to recipe when they come in season. My kids aren’t a huge fan of eating fresh figs, but dip them in chocolate and all of a sudden they’re the best treat!
This recipe is super simple. You only need three simple ingredients, and about 20 minutes from start to finish.
🥣 Ingredients and Notes
Fresh Ripe Figs: Figs usually come in 16-ounce containers at your local grocery store. You can use all of the figs or just as many as you want to dip in the melted chocolate. This recipe calls for 6-8 figs cut in half.
Dark Chocolate: Use high-quality dark chocolate. I recommend 70% or greater. You can use a chocolate bar or chocolate chips.
Sea Salt: Flaky sea salt is best, but if you don’t have that you can use regular sea salt.
📋 How to Make Chocolate Covered Figs
Step 1: Rinse the figs in water, and pat dry. Cut the figs in half, removing any stems.
Step 2: Add the dark chocolate to a microwave-safe glass bowl. Microwave in increments of 30 seconds, stirring in between until the chocolate is melted.
Step 3: Dip each fig half in the melted chocolate. You can dip the whole fig or half the fig. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Sprinkle with a pinch of sea salt and allow to sit until the chocolate hardens and sets. About 5-10 minutes.
❓ Recipe FAQS
The best type of chocolate to use is high-quality dark chocolate that is 70-80%. Dark chocolate tends to be dairy-free. But if you are vegan, always check the ingredient label.
Any type of fig that your grocery store carries will work. I used brown turkey figs for this recipe, as that was the type that was sold in my local grocery store. Adriatic Figs are green color on the outside, while black mission figs are a deep purple in color, and brown turkey figs have a brownish purple skin. Brown turkey figs are not as sweet as mission figs or Adriatic figs. Using a sweeter fig such as mission figs, or Adriatic figs is best.
When kept at room temperature, fresh figs will last for 2-3 days. If you store them in a refrigerator they will last for up to 7 days.
Once the chocolate has hardened on the figs, transfer them to an airtight container in a single layer. Store them in the fridge for up to one week.
