Vegan Chocolate Covered Strawberries are a snap to make, and they only require two simple ingredients. Add a few decorative sprinkles, or chopped nuts and they’re the perfect treat for your Valentine!

When I was a kid my best friends mom made the most delicious chocolate covered strawberries. The strawberries were plump and juicy, and the chocolate was rich and dark, just the way I like it!
She was known for her dinner parties, and if I was lucky enough to be keeping my bestie company while the adults drank wine, we’d have the pleasure of sneaking a few of the chocolate covered strawberries up to her room before dessert was served!
Lucky for those of us who are vegan, it’s totally possible to make vegan chocolate covered strawberries. All you need are high quality dairy free dark chocolate chocolate chips, chocolate chunks, or a chocolate bar broken into pieces and melted to make this plant-base dessert.
Dark chocolate is where it’s at for me! Good thing since milk chocolate, has..well, milk, and white chocolate also has milk! Many semi-sweet, or bittersweet chocolate bars and chips also has dairy, so it’s important when choosing your chocolate to take a look at the ingredient label. I also highly recommend using an organic fair trade chocolate.
These Vegan Chocolate Covered Strawberries are a huge hit around Valentine’s Day! I get to make my family a special treat that I can feel good about them eating!

How to Make Vegan Chocolate Covered Strawberries – Step by Step
Step 1: Wash the strawberries with the stems on under cold water, and pat them dry with a paper towel or clean kitchen towel.

Step 2: Using the double boiler method, bring a saucepan filled with two inches of water to a boil. Reduce heat, and set glass bowl with chocolate chips on top, making sure the bowl covers the rim of the saucepan, but does not touch the water. You want the bowl tightly fitted across the top of the saucepan so that the steam does not escape. The steam will slowly and gently melt the chocolate chips. Stir until completely melted.

Step 3: Hold the stem of each strawberry and dip the strawberry into the melted chocolate. Shake off any excess chocolate, and set on a parchment paper lined baking sheet. Optional: Top with sprinkles.

Step 4: Transfer to the refrigerator to harden for at least 15 minutes. Then remove from the refrigerator and keep in a cool dry place.

Tips for Making Vegan Chocolate Covered Strawberries
- Buy large plump strawberries with the stem attached
- Make sure to read the ingredient label on the chocolate before you buy, to ensure it is vegan and free of processed ingredients
- Using the double boiler method will help the chocolate from seizing and becoming a lumpy mess. I prefer this method as I have more control.
- You can also microwave the chips 30 seconds at a time on 50% heat. Checking, stirring, and then heating again for an additional 30 seconds until completely melted.
- Allow to set in the refrigerator, but remove from the refrigerator after 15-2- minutes and store in a cool dry place until ready to serve.
- Chocolate covered strawberries are best enjoyed fresh the day you make them.
- If you have extra do not store in the refrigerator. Instead gently cover and store at room temperature. Enjoy within 1-2 days.

Are vegan chocolate covered strawberries healthy?
These vegan chocolate covered strawberries are healthier than most because of the quality chocolate that is used. I highly recommend buying an organic certified vegan fair trade chocolate chip or chocolate bars for melting. This ensures you are getting the highest quality ingredients.
- Quality Dark Chocolate Health Benefits-If you buy dark chocolate with a high cocoa content you’ll be eating a food high in soluble fiber, and rich in iron, magnesium, copper and manganese. Dark chocolate is also high in antioxidants. Some studies have shown that dark chocolate can improve blood flow, raise HDL (good cholesterol) and protect LDL (bad cholesterol). It may also reduce risk of heart disease, and improve brain function. However, most chocolate comes with a lot of sugar! It’s best to eat in moderation, and consume high quality dark chocolate for the most health benefits.
- Health Benefits of Strawberries-Fresh organic strawberries are naturally healthy and delicious! They are high in fiber, vitamin C, manganese, folate, and potassium. They’re also rich in antioxidants, like chocolate! Studies have indicated that strawberries may decrease your risk of heart disease and cancer, as well as help regulate blood sugar levels.
Can you melt vegan chocolate?
Vegan chocolate melts just like milk chocolate. Vegan chocolate is often made from cocoa powder and cocoa butter. Cocoa butter is not actually dairy butter, but a type of oil that comes from the cocoa bean. This allows the chocolate to melt.
How do you serve vegan chocolate covered strawberries?
Chocolate covered strawberries are best eaten fresh the day you make them. If you have leftovers or need to make them a day in advance it is best to store them in a cool dry place, but not in the refrigerator. When stored in the refrigerator the strawberries will begin to sweat and release moisture becoming mushy, and the chocolate will lose it’s nice hard shell.
