❓ FAQS
If the fruit you are using is sturdy, you can make fruit skewers a day ahead. However, if you are using berries or bananas, I don’t recommend making them in advance. The strawberries tend to bleed into the banana, and the banana will brown.
The best way to keep fruit skewers fresh is to squeeze some fresh lemon juice on them and keep them in the refrigerator. The acid from the lemon juice helps to keep the fruit from browning.
The best fruits to use for skewers are ones that keep longer. Grapes, cantaloupe, and honeydew will last longer when kept refrigerated than blueberries, strawberries, or bananas.
📝 Expert Tips
- Wash all of your fruit and pat dry before assembling.
- Use long green grapes to look more like a Grinch face.
- Try to find strawberries that come to a point at the bottom to get the Santa hat look.
- Pierce the fruit directly through the center with the skewer.
- If your marshmallows are smaller, you won’t need to cut them in half. Mine were the perfect size when cut in half.
- Put these together just before you’re ready to serve. The bananas will brown if they sit out long.
- Lightly squeeze some lemon juice on each banana slice to help keep them from browning too quickly.
