Last fall my husband and I had the opportunity to go on a Mediterranean cruise without our kids! I know! Amazing, right?!
Our ship had two cute coffee shops where they served the most amazing frothy latte recipes throughout the day.
My husband and I made it a routine to stop in around 2pm and grab a mid-day pick me up. He began asking for an almond milk latte, while I got my regular oat milk latte.
To my surprise, he began loving them! When we got home he stopped drinking diet coke all together, and started drinking coffee to get his caffeine fix in the morning.
That’s when I decided to perfect an almond milk latte recipe at home. We needed to cut back on our Starbucks spending, but I also didn’t want my husband going back to his soda drinking days!
As a result, I’ve played around with making this recipe more times than I can count, and have all the tips and tricks for making a perfectly creamy, frothy latte using almond milk.
Not only that, but I’ll show you how to make it both hot and iced since the summer months are fast approaching! Plus I’ve included a few different flavors to try!

Why You’ll Love This Almond Milk Latte Recipe
- Simple Ingredients: You only need a few basic ingredients to make this latte.
- Simple Equipment: There’s no need for a frother, espresso machine, or other specialty gadgets.
- Customizable: You can easily adjust the sweetness of these lattes to your liking.
- Creamy and Frothy: These might be vegan, but they have that classic, creamy frothiness we love in classic lattes.
- Coffee House Quality: This is a latter recipe that tastes like the barista at your favorite coffee house made it!
Ingredients and Notes

- Strong Coffee or Espresso: I recommend using a French press to achieve a strong coffee shop-like flavor for this latte. If you have an espresso machine, feel free to make your own espresso. Otherwise, use your drip coffee maker to create a strong pot of coffee.
- Unsweetened Almond Milk: Unsweetened almond milk gives the lattes a creamy feel without using dairy milk.
- Maple Syrup: This ingredient is optional. You only need to add maple syrup if you want your latte with more sweetness.
- Vanilla Extract: Also optional, but add a nice vanilla flavor for a vanilla latte. See below for my other flavor suggestions!
See the recipe card at the end of the post for a full list of ingredients and their exact amounts.

How to Make an Almond Milk Latte
You can make your latte hot or cold—it’s up to you—and they’re both delicious. I’m including both ways!
Hot Version:
- Brew a strong pot of coffee or espresso.

- Heat the almond milk over medium-low heat and whisk in the maple syrup and vanilla extract if you choose to use them, heating until the milk begins to steam and thicken.

- Remove the milk from the heat and pour it into a blender. Blend until the milk is thick and foamy.

- Fill a mug ¾ full of strong coffee, or add 1 to 2 espresso shots. Then, pour the almond milk over the coffee.

- Use a spoon to skim off the foam in the blender and add it to the top of the latte.

Iced Coffee
- Brew a strong pot of coffee or espresso and let it cool to room temperature.
- Whisk the almond milk, maple syrup, and vanilla extract.
- Fill a tall glass with ice and fill the glass ¾ full with the cooled coffee or 1 to 2 shots of cooled espresso.
- Fill the rest of the glass with the almond milk mixture and stir.

FAQ
Yes, they do. They’re just as frothy, creamy, and delicious as traditional lattes.
Barista blends are best for lattes. They’re specifically made to be included in coffee and available from many brands, including Califa, Pacific, Almond Breeze, and Silk.
Barista blend almond milk is an almond milk variation specifically made for coffee recipes. These blends are thicker and contain thickening agents and stabilizers such as locust bean gum, sodium alginate, and guar gum.
The calories in an almond milk latte are dependent on the ingredients used. Lattes made with unsweetened almond milk and coffee are around 35 calories. Lattes with added sweeteners like maple syrup or honey will have a few more calories.
If you don’t have a steamer, you can warm your milk over the stove until it steams but does not boil. Then, pour the milk into a blender and whip it for about 30 seconds.
Yes, you can. Soy, coconut, or any non-dairy milk will work for this recipe.
That’s largely dependent on your personal preference. Some people prefer oat milk for coffee, while others enjoy soy milk. Just use what you love!
If your latte is bland, it’s most likely due to not using strong coffee. Use more coffee per cup of water, darker beans, or both.
Regular milk and other dairy products are the top sources of saturated fat in the American diet. This kind of fat contributes to heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and Alzheimer’s Disease. In addition, it’s been linked to an increased risk of breast, ovarian, and prostate cancer. Using plant milk eliminates this unhealthy fat in your lattes.

Expert Tips
- Use strong coffee or espresso.
- Don’t burn the coffee.
- Steam the milk in a pot, then froth it in the blender, or if you have one use a milk frother
