These vegan truffles only require two simple ingredients! Coat them in nuts, coconut, or cacao powder for a beautiful finish! They make for a delicious and gorgeous holiday gift, a special treat to share with someone you love on Valentine’s Day, or a luxurious treat for any day of the year!

Decadent chocolate truffles, need I say more? They make for a luxurious treat any time of year, but they are especially appreciated during the holidays and Valentine’s Day!
When the holidays arrive, one of my favorite ways to spread my love is by baking delicious treats like these vegan cranberry pistachio cookies, vegan ginger cookies, or my vegan shortbread cookies dipped in dark chocolate.
In recent years I’ve started adding candy treats to my list of holiday recipes like these chocolate-covered pretzel rods, peppermint bark, and fruit and nut chocolate bark.
But I have to say one of the most decadent treats that make for a gorgeous presentation is also one of the easiest to prepare! Vegan truffles require only two main ingredients, plus whatever you coat them in. They also take only about 15 minutes of hands-on time!
Most truffle recipes require a long list of complicated ingredients, but not these! These dark chocolate truffles have a deep flavor and are super creamy and decadent!

Ingredients and Notes
Vegan Dark Chocolate: Use quality vegan dark chocolate. You can use either a chocolate bar that you’ll finely chop or high-quality dark chocolate chips. I recommend 72% or greater. Make sure that the chocolate does not contain any dairy.
Coconut Cream: The coconut cream is heated and poured over the chocolate to melt it and create a smooth chocolate ganache filling. You can’t really taste any coconut flavor in the vegan chocolate ganache.
Coatings: There are so many different flavor coatings to choose from. Some of my favorites include…
- Chopped Nuts (pecans, walnuts, peanuts, pistachios, or almonds)
- Cacao Powder or Cocoa Powder
- Dried and Crushed Strawberries
- Ground Espresso Coffee
- Organic Powered Sugar
- Desiccated Coconut
- Vegan Sprinkles
- Vegan Cacao Nibs
- Chia Seeds
- Ground Flax Seeds
- Sea Salt
- Chocolate Coating (dip in melted chocolate and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper to cool)
How to Make Vegan Truffles
Step 1: Pour dark chocolate chips into a medium bowl or finely chop 8 ounces of vegan dark chocolate.
Step 2: Bring ½ a cup of coconut cream to a boil over medium heat. Remove from heat immediately.
Step 3: Pour the coconut cream over the vegan chocolate chips or chopped chocolate. Allow them to sit for 5 minutes. Alternatively, you can use a double boiler to heat the coconut cream and chocolate together.
Step 4: Using a spatula, stir the cream and chocolate until smooth and combined.
Step 5: Set the chocolate truffle mixture in the refrigerator for one hour.
Step 6: Scoop one tablespoon of ganache, and roll it in your hands to create a ball.
Step 7: Roll the balls in finely chopped nuts, cacao powder, shredded coconut, or a coating of your choice.
Expert Tips
- Use quality dairy-free dark chocolate. The higher the quality of the chocolate you use, the better these will taste! I like to use the 72% dark chocolate chips from Trader Joe’s. They are dairy free and vegan-friendly. I also like Hu Dark Chocolate Bars.
- Be sure to use full-fat coconut cream, not coconut milk. The coconut cream makes the ganache super luscious and creamy.
- The ganache needs to cool and solidify before rolling into balls. You want it to be soft enough to roll but not so soft that it melts in your hands.
- If the ganache is too hard to scoop and roll, place it in the microwave for 5-10 seconds.
- If the ganache gets too soft, place it back in the refrigerator to cool.
Frequently Asked Questions
You can easily change up the flavor of the ganache by infusing the chocolate ganache with various flavored extracts. I recommend adding one teaspoon to combine the chocolate with the coconut cream. Some extracts you might try include vanilla extract, peppermint, almond, hazelnut, orange, or whatever you can dream up! You could add various spices, such as a ¼ teaspoon of cayenne pepper, ground cinnamon, or ground ginger.
Store the truffles at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 2 months. You can also store them in the fridge, but they will harden and not have that soft center. You can freeze them for up to a year.
Use mini foil baking liners to place each truffle inside, then put all of the truffles in a shallow gift box and tie them with a ribbon!
These dark, decadent chocolate truffles are a treat and not a health food. However, they are made with wholesome ingredients. Dark chocolate contains less sugar than milk chocolate, and coconut cream contains healthy fats known as medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs). Dark chocolate is known to have several health benefits. It’s a rich source of fiber, iron, magnesium, copper, manganese, and other minerals. So while these decadent truffles are a sweet treat, they are healthier than the store-bought version.
