This patriotic Independence Day Fruit Salad is perfect for your festive July 4th celebration! With plump red strawberries, blueberries, watermelon stars, and chopped banana for a pop of white, it’s not only delicious and super fun to make, but healthy too!

It’s the fourth of July weekend, and I’m prepping for all of the fun and festive activities. It’s going to be a hot one here! We are planning to spend the afternoon at our local pool. They always plan games and activities for the kids, while the adults fire up the grill and share in a pot-luck. Then we come home and do sparklers with the kids and call it a day!
I want to bring the perfect patriotic dessert to the potluck that is healthy, vegan-friendly, and plant-based! This is it! Not only is it super simple to make, everyone will love it! It’s also a great recipe to make with the kids. My boys had fun using a star cookie cutter to cut watermelon stars. It’s got the patriotic colors of the American Flag with the color red from the strawberries and watermelon, blue from the blueberries, and a pop of white from the chopped bananas.
This fruit salad doesn’t have to be served only for Independence Day. You can make it for Memorial Day or Labor Day too!

🥣 Ingredients and Notes
Strawberries: I used one quart of strawberries, hulled and sliced into quarters. For more red fruits, you could add raspberries or red grapes.
Blueberries: Use one pint of blueberries, stems removed, washed, and gently pat dry. Blackberries are another great blue fruit you could add to this fruit salad!
Watermelon: I recommend using a small seedless watermelon. You’ll use the watermelon to cut the stars. If you can find it, you can use a white melon instead.
Bananas: This fruit salad needs a pop of white to make it truly red, white, and blue. Banana works great for this, but bananas brown quickly and easily. Slice and add the banana just before serving. Alternatively, you could use sliced apple or pears for the white. But they also brown quickly.
Lime: You’ll need the juice and zest of one lime.
📋 Instructions
Step 1: Hull and slice the strawberries into quarters. Wash the blueberries and pat them dry with a paper towel or kitchen towel.
Step 2: Cut the watermelon into thin slices. Using a star cookie cutter, cut out 5-10 watermelon stars.
Step 3: Add the strawberries and blueberries to a medium bowl. Add the zest and juice of one lime. Gently fold it all together.
Step 4: Add the watermelon stars, and slice the bananas into thin rounds. Add to the bowl. Serve and enjoy!
