These cute and fun chocolate snowflakes are an easy holiday or winter treat. They take only a few minutes of prep time and have three simple ingredients.
I used dark chocolate because I love the flavor, but you could also use white chocolate to achieve a white snowflake look.
💗 Why You’ll Love Chocolate Snowflakes
- An easy and beautiful giftable holiday treat!
- Vegan & Gluten-Free
- Only two simple ingredients
- It takes minutes to make! Plus, some hands-off time in the freezer.
🔪 Tools and Equipment
🥣 Ingredients and Notes
- Dark Vegan Chocolate Chips: You’ll need two cups of chocolate chips. I prefer the Enjoy Life brand. They are certified vegan, gluten-free, non-GMO, and free of allergens. They also taste great and melt easily!
- Brown Rice Cereal: This adds crunch to the chocolates. I opt for the organic brown rice cereal because it has simple ingredients and is vegan and gluten-free.
📖 Variations and Substitutions
- Use white chocolate for a white snowflake, or add a touch of natural blue food coloring for blue chocolate snowflakes.
- Skip the rice cereal. Melt the chocolate and allow it to set in the molds.
- Add chopped pecans, walnuts, almonds, or peanuts instead of cereal for a nutty snowflake!
- Add dried fruit like cherries or cranberries.
👩🏻🍳 How to Make Chocolate Snowflakes
- Melt the chocolate chips in a glass bowl using the double boiler method. Or microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between until chocolate is melted. Mix in coconut oil until smooth.
- Stir in rice cereal until coated.
- Scoop into the molds and shake them to ensure the chocolate is evenly distributed. Place in the fridge for at least an hour.
- Pop out of molds and enjoy.
📝 Expert Tips
- If melting the chocolate in the microwave, be careful not to burn it! If you microwave for too long, it will burn the chocolate and be no good! If you microwave in 30-second intervals and stir in between until chocolate is just melted, you should have a good consistency.
- Use high-quality melting chocolate for the best taste and flavor!
- Allow the snowflakes to set in the fridge for at least an hour before serving! This will ensure that they easily pop out and aren’t a gooey mess!
❄️ Storage
Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. I recommend using a tin lined with parchment paper in between each layer of chocolates. They will keep for several weeks if stored properly. They will keep in the fridge for several more weeks or in the freezer for up to three months.
🎁 How to Package
Idea #1: Use small holiday chocolate tins. You can usually find these at the dollar store. Wrap chocolates in tissue paper, and top the box with a holiday ribbon.
Idea #2: Use cookie boxes to place your chocolates in.
Idea #3: Drop into clear cellophane bags and tie them with a holiday ribbon and gift tag.
