These beautiful chocolate snowflakes are an easy and fun winter treat. Dark chocolate is melted, and combined with brown rice cereal for crunch to create these bite sized holiday sweets! Make them as a holiday gift, or just enjoy at home with your family!

These cute and fun chocolate snowflakes are an easy holiday or winter treat. They take only a few minutes of prep time, and have 3 simple ingredients.
I made these with my kiddos on the first snow of the season! I can’t believe it’s already snowing! While it is the end of October, I’m not ready for snow until December!
Rather than taking it as a bad omen, I decided to embrace it, and celebrate with these fun and simple chocolate snowflakes.
My kids thought it was great fun stirring the chocolate and crunchy rice cereal together. It did take them a bit of patience to wait for the chocolates to set in the freezer.
But when they were ready, we were all ready to give these snowflakes a try!
Since these came out so cute and festive, we agreed that we should make them again as we get closer to the holidays, and package them up with red ribbon to give to our friends and family as a homemade holiday treat!
Why you’ll love these Chocolate Snowflakes…

- Only 3 simple ingredients
- Takes minutes to make! Plus some hands-off time in the freezer.
Tools and Equipment
Recipe Ingredients and Notes
- Dark Vegan Chocolate Chips: You’ll need two cups of chocolate chips. I prefer the Enjoy Life brand. They are certified vegan, gluten-free, Non-GMO, and free of allergens. They also taste great, and melt easily!
- Brown Rice Cereal: This adds crunch to the chocolates. I opt for the organic brown rice cereal because it has simple ingredients and is both vegan and gluten-free.
- Coconut Oil: Combine coconut oil with the chocolate chips to create a smooth texture.
How to Make Chocolate Snowflakes – Step by Step
Step 1: Melt the chocolate chips in a glass bowl using the double boiler method. Or microwave in 30 seconds intervals, stirring in between until chocolate is melted. Mix in coconut oil until smooth.
Step 2: Stir in rice cereal until coated.
Step 3: Scoop into the molds and shake the molds to make sure the chocolate is evenly distributed. Place in the freezer overnight.
Step 4: Pop out of molds and enjoy.
Top Tips for Making Chocolate Snowflakes
- If melting the chocolate in the microwave be careful not to burn it! If you microwave for too long, it will burn the chocolate and be no good! If you microwave in 30 second intervals, and stir in between until chocolate is just melted, you should have a good consistency.
- Use a high quality melting chocolate for best taste and flavor!
- Make sure you allow the snowflakes to set in the freezer overnight! This will ensure that they easily pop out and aren’t a gooey mess!
Variations and Substitutions
- Use white chocolate for a white snowflake, or add a touch of natural blue food coloring for blue chocolate snowflakes. Note: Most white chocolate is not vegan. I recommend this kosher vegan white baking chocolate if you’re looking for a vegan brand.
- Skip the rice cereal and just melt the chocolate and allow to set in molds.
- Add chopped pecans, walnuts, almonds, or peanuts instead of cereal for a nutty snowflake!
How to Store and Keep
Store in an air tight container in a cool dry place. I recommend using a tin lined with parchment paper in between each layer of chocolates. They will keep for several weeks if stored properly.
How to Package as a Gift
There’s many ways you can package these chocolates to give as a holiday gift.
Idea #1: Use small holiday chocolate tins. You can usually find these at the dollar store. Wrap chocolates in tissue paper, and top the box with a holiday ribbon.
Idea #2: Use cookie boxes to place your chocolates in.
Idea #3: Drop into clear cellophane baggies, and tie with a holiday ribbon and gift tag.
