Along with hot chocolate, Christmas lights, and Hallmark movies, Christmas cookies are among my favorite things during the holidays.
Finding fantastic vegan Christmas cookies is like opening a big box with a shiny bow on Christmas morning.
The Christmas cookies I love must be homemade.
Vegan Christmas Cookies
Most traditional cookies aren’t vegan, but I love the exchange because I get to show off how amazing and delicious vegan Christmas cookies can be.
It’s my way of impressing my friends and family. I also always include a recipe card so they can make them again at home.
If you’re vegan and attending a cookie exchange, you might not be able to eat all of the cookies unless it’s a strictly vegan cookie exchange, but you can bring a fantastic cookie that will make your friends swoon.
I’ve collected the most delicious and surprisingly vegan versions of classic Christmas cookies and some new and inventive cookies. Use these recipes to create beautiful cooke box gifts, share at your next cookie exchange, or simply enjoy them all for yourself! These plant-based dessert cookies are out of this world!

Recipe
Vegan Christmas Cookies (One Bowl)
Ingredients
- ½ cup vegan butter room temperature
- ½ cup cane sugar
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup vegan buttercream frosting colored or white
- Christmas sprinkles
Instructions
- Add the room-temperature vegan butter, cane sugar, and brown sugar to a large mixing bowl. Cream together until light and fluffy using a hand mixer or stand mixer.
- Add the vanilla extract and applesauce. Beat together on high for one minute.
- Sift together the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and baking soda.
- Slowly add the flour to the butter mixture until the flour is completely incorporated.
- Cover and chill the cookie dough for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Add one tablespoon scoops of the chilled dough to the prepared baking sheet 2 inches apart to leave room for spreading.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes on the center rack or until lightly golden brown on the bottom.
- Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack to cool completly.
- Once cooled, spread the vegan buttercream on top of each cookie ad top with holiday sprinkles.
Notes
- Set the butter out on the counter at least an hour before you plan to start making the cookies. This way, it has time to come to room temperature.
- Be sure to chill the dough before baking. This will allow them to spread nicely.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. After that transfer to the refrigerator, or freeze.
