Ingredients

  • 12 oz coconut milk

Instructions

Freezing in Ice Cube Trays

  • Pour the coconut milk into your silicone ice cube tray. If you have one, secure the lid.
  • Place the ice cube tray in the freezer for 2-3 hour, or until set. Overnight works great!
  • Pop the coconut milk cubes out of the tray. Place in a freezer bag and seal. Label with the date, and store in the freezer for future use.

Freezing in Containers

  • Pour coconut milk into your freezer-safe container. Don't fill it all the way up to the top, as liquid expands when frozen. Secure the lid.
  • Label with the date and contents.
  • Store in the freezer. It will take about 8 hours to set depending on how much you freeze.

Notes

Expert Tips for Freezing Coconut Milk
  • Before you freeze your coconut milk, consider how you are likely to use it. If you plan to use it for a curry recipe, you may want to consider a container. If you plan to use it for smoothies, you consider ice cube trays.
  • Before you freeze your coconut milk in ice cube trays or in containers, measure the volume. For example, one ice cube could be about 2 tablespoons, whereas one container (depending on size) could be 1-2 cups. Knowing how much each container holds, will be helpful at a later date when you want to defrost and use your coconut milk for a recipe.
  • Always label your airtight containers with the contents and the date. This way your almond milk doesn't get mixed up with your coconut milk, and you won't have to worry about it ever going bad in the freezer. Coconut milk will keep in the freezer for about 6 months.
  • Use silicone ice cube trays for easy removal.
  • Blend your defrosted coconut milk before using it.
  • Don't use defrosted coconut milk for a beverage in and of itself. It doesn't have the same flavor.
  • The shelf life of canned coconut milk is a year or longer, but once opened it will only last a few days in the fridge.
