Ingredients

  • 4 slices bread
  • ½ cup unsweetened almond milk or other plant milk
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon coconut sugar optional

Optional Toppings

Instructions

AIr Fryer Instructions

  • Cut your bread into thin strips. About 4 to 5 strips per slice of bread.
  • Combine almond milk, cinnamon, vanilla, and coconut sugar in a shallow bowl. Whisk together with a fork. Dip each bread strip in the bowl until just coated.
  • Place in the air fryer basket. Give enough space between each bread strip. Do not overlap the strips, or put them on top of one another. Be sure that they are in one single layer without touching.
  • Bake for 8 to 10 minutes at 375 F. They will be done when they are golden brown on both sides.

On the Griddle

  • Cut your bread into thin strips. About 4 to 5 strips per slice of bread.
  • Combine almond milk, cinnamon, vanilla, and coconut sugar in a shallow bowl. Whisk together with a fork. Dip each bread strip in the bowl until just coated.
  • Heat your griddle on medium high heat. If using a non-stick griddle you do not need to add any oil, vegan butter, or cooking spray, but you can if you choose.
  • Place French toast sticks on the preheated griddle. Don't overcrowd or allow them to touch.
  • Cook for 3-4 minutes per side or until golden brown on either side.

Baked in the Oven

  • Preheat oven to 375 F. Cut your bread into thin strips.
  • Line baking sheet with aluminum foil. Spray with cooking spray. Place strips of bread on baking sheet without overcrowding, overlapping, or touching.
  • Bake for 4 minutes, flip, and bake for an additional 4 minutes. If not quite baked and golden brown, bake for an additional 2 minutes.

Notes

  • Don't overcrowd the bread sticks no matter what method you use.
  • Add your favorite flavorings and spices.
  • Don't soak the bread for too long. It can easily become too soggy, and won't bake all the way through.
  • Use a heavy duty sandwich bread or bakers bread to avoid your bread from becoming too soggy.
  • Cooking times may vary depending on your appliance
